Future Olympic sport?

edit

Is there any information if aquathlon will become Olympic discipline in the near future?

Hmmm... think I vaguely recall possible rumours of that in the past, but at best it is wishfull thinking. Because the powers that be in the olympics ideally want to cut back on the number of athletes at the olympics. Very sadly I believe cycling has lost the kilo. (and the womens 500m too, I believe)
However they are held at the same time each year (roughly, normally the weekend before) as the (now just the age group sadly, because the pro's have been split off) triathlon world chapms. So this provides a degree of support for it at the top level. Mathmo 09:25, 10 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

"...far more common than triathlons in some places"

edit

Is this true? If so, where? Can someone cite a source for this statement?

I agree, I think that statement should be removed so I will do it. Jtaylor1024 03:07, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, probably overly stated it there. But it is still in a certain sense true. In auckland (which I shall point out is the biggest city of one of the best countries in the entire world in triathlon) during the summer there is an aquathlon every single week while there is only one triathlon series which has a race once or twice every month or so.

Am going down to wellington for the UniGames, and they don't have a triathlon on the event schedule. However, they do have an aquathlon. Mathmo 09:14, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Aquathlon competitive field generally overlaps with that of triathlon."

edit

I'm not sure what this means. Is this referring to professional triathletes? Do most professional triathletes compete as aquathletes as well?

Due to the fact that on a global scale aquathlons are not as popular as triathlons you will find that commonly triathletes have not done an aquathlon, however what I stated is the reverse of aquathletes will have done triathlons. And that is generally true. Mathmo 09:17, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

A long time has passed, no futher comments. So I'll probably remove the disputed tag soon. Mathmo 20:32, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes called an aquathon

edit

Got to strongly disagree on the way that is worded too. Surely even a simply google search will tell you that aquathlon is used more often by an entire ORDER OF MAGNITUDE! Plus a quick skim through the first page of results from each does seem to show that the pages for aquathlon tend to be refering to itu and usta (and other high end events) races while the same can't be said about aquathon. Sources for "underwater wrestling"?

edit

Never have heard of this other definition of aquathlon before, but then again it might exist. Would help if references could be provided? Does sound rather dangerous, isn't there a very high risk of drowning from it? Hmm... must investigate. Mathmo Talk 16:04, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A while has past, but no more results are turning up. In fact the google search turns up only one hit. [1] Mathmo Talk 12:44, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
And it is not even related whatsoever to what this is about. Mathmo Talk 12:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
CMAS uses aquathlon to describe underwater wrestling at this page: http://www.cmas.org/aquathlon - it seems we need disambiguation. --RexxS (talk) 20:58, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi RexxS - added Aquathlon (underwater wrestling) to the 'not to be confused' tag Cowdy001 (talk) 23:25, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
