Ar Ru'aysAl Ruwais – 'Al Ruwais' is the more common spelling. Elspamo4 (talk) 06:31, 9 August 2017 (UTC)--Relisting.usernamekiran(talk) 13:24, 26 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:40, 9 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I was basing the request more off of search results rather than the transcription, as it seems to be spelled as Al Ruwais in Qatari media (eg Gulf Times & Qatar Museums), while at the same time I couldn't find any organizations spelling it as Ar Ru'ays in my short search. I will concede the request though since it is technically a correct spelling, and since there's a redirect from Al Ruwais. Elspamo4 (talk) 09:19, 9 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Tempted to relist. It seems possible that the standard transcription of the name is at odds with the most common English usage, but that this English usage is rare enough to be not terribly helpful to the reader. I can find no applicable naming conventions. Probably we need one. Andrewa (talk) 22:05, 24 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

But having said Support alternative move to Al Ruwais (Qatar) per Govt of Qatar sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:49, 27 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Anthony Appleyard: I think you might need to weigh in and close this or at least !vote, seem to be short of editors who can read Arabic. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:34, 8 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
But in terms of disambiguation, and English usage. The "Al Ruwais" in Qatar is not the best known of the various "Al Ruwais" is it? In ictu oculi (talk) 11:04, 8 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose move as proposed. Too many uncertainties to make a call that this will improve Wikipedia. An alternative may be appropriate. I note also that content from the target was merged to this article although that doesn't seem to have been noted on either talk page, so we need to preserve both page histories.
