Phonetic numbers?
editI'm sure you know that the NATO phonetic alphabet is a way to pronounce the letters of the alphabet to keep the possibility of someone mishearing one letter as another (for example, B can be misheard as V but if you use "Bravo" for B and "Victor" for V it makes them easily distinguishable. Has anyone thought of a similar thing for the shapes of numbers just as the NATO phonetic alphabet is for the sounds of letters?? Such a thing would almost definitely need a crossed 7, but anything besides that?? 66.32.244.248 01:35, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Muslim History
editThere should be mentioning that these numerals originated in "Islamic Spain," when Muslims ruled that area.
It may now be called European, but it originated in "Islamic Spain" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xtremeownage (talk • contribs) 09:57, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
explanations
editThe article makes extensive use of terms like "bowls" and "descenders". Perhaps a section to explain these?
- We can probably correctly guess, but Wikipedia shouldn't be a guessing game. The words need to be explained in some way. 164.47.179.32 (talk) 22:21, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Pictures
editNeeds more pictures to make descriptions clearer. RJFJR (talk) 20:21, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- I definitely agree. We need some visual to demonstrate these. Could someone help? I would add to the pictures if I know what the numbers are supposed to look like.--71.146.13.171 (talk) 17:11, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. What is meant by a "tick"? Is it a small mark like `, or is it a check mark (✓)? Or...? 164.47.179.32 (talk) 22:19, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
"One" can vary widely, to the extent that it is not understandable by people with different systems. See Regional handwriting variation . The digit four can also vary widely (see Regional handwriting variation, and also even more extreme in Hungary).164.47.179.32 (talk) 22:32, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
