Article naming and capital
editShouldn't we call this article Arawa, Papua New Guinea instead? And I thought, Buka town was the capital, or has it moved? Nomadtales 06:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- This is where I found links to the article from the Disambiguation Page. I have no objections to a move, although we could find ourselves moving it all back if Bougainville becomes an independent state. I heard of Buka being the capital too, but it seemed Awara was listed most places as the capital, so I marked it as the disputed capital in the article. Aliasd 21:51, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- To keep it standardised, it should really be Name, Papua New Guinea. I will move it. As to the capital, I think Arawa used to be the capital before the war, but now it is in Buka. I will have to do some research. Nomadtales 01:53, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- There were plans to move the capital back to Arawa by now Aliasd 12:32, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Accuracy
editHi, regarding, "The land where Arawa is now situated was previously a large expatriate plantation." - I actually lived in Arawa for nine years before the war broke out. I don't recall it ever being described as a plantation! And if you were to ask me about the Arawa plantation I wouldn't know what you were talking about. Yes, there were plantations on Bougainville, but the Arawa expatriate plantation sounds a bit odd (speaking as someone who lived there). Maybe you meant to write population rather than plantation :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.31.27.24 (talk) 22:31, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Capital
editI believe the capital was always Buka on paper but in real terms to infrastructure was all mostly in Arawa. Most people would disagree that Buka was the real capital and I am in that list. The trip from Arawa to Buka was almost an impossible journey in even the most capable Toyota 4x4 as there was just a jungle trail and river crossings that most off road motorcycles could not navigate successfully.
