Scissores or Scissoris?
editThis article says Scissores, but the Scissor (gladiator type) article says Scissoris. Anyone know which it is? Allens (talk) 23:28, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Lewis & Short (the ancient, online version at perseus) has scissoris as plural. Scissor (gladiator type) has been edited by Cynwolfe, who's a fluent Latinist. Um.... sorry, I thought I'd sorted it - but I've not, have I? This may be one of those "hard to assign and decline" nouns. Why not simply use the English "Scissors"? - That's one possibility (using the English), although that both Lewis & Short and Cynwolfe say scissoris seems to indicate that it's that. (BTW, I have inquired of WLRoss as to his source on the scissors description in the List article.) Allens (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hoo, well; let's just scrub half (the worst half) of what I said above, and be of even less help already. This article has been edited by Cynwolfe, who's a fluent Latinist... yadda yadda... Haploidavey (talk) 00:29, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
