Talk:Archaeopteris

Latest comment: 8 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

Hello, I wonder if the fern-like tree ( http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/04/18/tree.fossil.reut/index.html )
should replace this article's stance as the oldest tree, or lead to another page within the year when more news comes around.
Just a question. :-D

A fairly minor point regarding this section "The genus Archaeopteris is placed in the order Archaeopteridales and family Archaeopteridaceae. The name is similar to that of the first known feathered bird, Archaeopteryx, but in this case refers to the feather-like nature of the plant's fronds." The name Archaeopteris doesn't refer to feathers at all. the Archaeo part means "ancient" and the pteris part means "fern". In the feathered bird the part pteryx means "feather". --Stocksdale, 2014, July 6. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stocksdale (talkcontribs) 17:38, 7 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
