Rewrite

I have long thought that there are too many articles covering this topic and have long suggested that something be done see Talk:Strategic_bombing#Redundancies

We have a number of articles which cover similar ground.

• Terror bombing
• Aerial bombing of cities
• Strategic bombing and more specifically Strategic bombing in World War II.

And a smaller article on Carpet bombing.

Just as "Terror bombing" became a favourite expression of Joseph Goebbels Area Bombing was the preferred euphemism use by the Air Ministry and the RAF. The Americans preferred the use of "precision bombing" often just a fictional cover for saturation bombing of German cities (eg the Berlin raid of Feb 3 1945).

I suggest that this article is re-written to describe how the expression why and how the expression came into use and move any merge any useful detail about bombing in to either Strategic bombing, Strategic bombing in World War II or Aerial bombing of cities. --PBS (talk) 10:59, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Arc Light in Vietnam

When B-52s were used in Vietnam, they used gravity bombs, as noted elsewhere in Wikipedia under Operation Arc Light.

A liquid, such as herbicide, obviously cannot be dropped successfully from 30,000 feet. Herbicide was sprayed by converted C123 cargo planes.

Likewise, napalm was only delivered by fighter-bombers; I don't know of it ever being dropped from heavy bombers, and I doubt you will find any instances of it being so used.

The section on Vietnam area bombing is thus fallacious, and needs to be rewritten.

Second World War

The article seems to be skewed on the attacks on Germany. More needs to be written on the mass bombing of cities, for example, in Japan and the USSR. Wallie (talk) 07:05, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
