"The five and dime"
editCan anyone actually provide any citations other than urban dictionary for this? I've lived in the area my whole life, and never heard a single person ever utter that phrase. Since the late 90s, the area is known as "the east bay" or (less often) "the five-ten".
A Google search can't seem to find ANY other reference to the "five and dime" being the east bay other than the urban dictionary posting. Additionally, the urban dictionary posting misstates when the area got the 510 area code -- directly contradicting the Wikipedia article: "since prior to the 1990's 510 covered that area as well" (the area code was created in 1991, and was split from the area referred to in 1998).
I'm removing the reference, as a colloquial name is also not particularly relevant on an area code article anyway. Those who disagree are free to revert, but should ideally explain their view here 70.36.143.146 (talk) 04:20, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
history of 510
editTelegraphy#Telex states the following:
TWX had special area codes: 510, 610, 710, 810 and 910. With the demise of TWX service, these codes were re-provisioned as standard geographic NPAs in the 1990s.
Can anyone add a history section for this area code? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.42.230.51 (talk) 23:14, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I grew up in the east San Francisco bay area in the 1960s and 1970s and our phone number area code was 510. Ergo, the article's statement, "Area code 510 was established on September 2, 1991, in a split from area code 415.[1]" is wrong. I suspect the reference is about another agency action related to 415 and 510 in 1991 that the wiki author confused with the creation date of 510 in the bay area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gypsymansion (talk • contribs) 22:30, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
