Notable People

edit

This list is off-topic, and needs to be radically pruned down. It begins with the word "This list also includes British people who were born or have lived in Argentina", despite that the article is about Britons with Argentine ancestory. It then includes people that don't even fall into that, broader catagory - i.e. Argentinians with some British descent. At least one person on the list might struggle to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines anyway. Quite a few of the pages on Britain's Latin American minorities are showing the same problems. Either the topic of the page is broadened to accomodate these individuals, or their names should be removed. Indisciplined (talk) 17:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Population figures

edit

I've changed the population figures used in this article. For an explanation, please see the Latin American Britons talk page. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Culture and community

edit

Much of the recently added "Culture and community" section is off-topic, covering issues such as the popularity of Tango in the UK (without establishing whether this is because of the presence of Argentines in Britain - in fact, it suggests it's more to do with the BBC) and football rivalries. Adding my opinion here as requested by Cordless Larry. It seems that during the AfD, this article was inflated with any and all connections between Argentina and the UK (Britons in Argentina, football rivalries, restaurants, and tango) in an attempt to prove that there's something non-trivial to say about this topic.
These kinds of materials only belong if reliable sources have discussed the connection between actual Argentines in the UK and the topic in question. E.g. Koreans in the United Kingdom#Areas of residence also discusses football, but that's because there were newspaper articles on the sole topic of the expats cheering for their team [1], not just articles about the game which made one throwaway mention of how expats reacted. Similarly Iranians in the United Kingdom#Cuisine discusses restaurants, but that's because someone actually wrote an entire academic book discussing food culture in that community. cab (talk) 00:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I removed the whole section. I considered leaving the information about the Anglo-Argentine Society, but it seems to be a society for promoting Argentine culture rather than an Argentine community group. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:41, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
