Suggestions
editHi, good work improving this article. I've done a bit of copy edit work on this article and have updated the assessment checklist based on the recent additions. In my opinion, it is very close to a B class rating. I have the following comments/suggestions for further improvement :
- in the Arkansas Battalion of Mounted Gunmen section, in the table there are a couple of entires that read "Example" - should these be there?; DoneAleutian06 (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- in the Two classes of Militia section, sometimes you use the term Volunteer Companies, but then also Voluntary Companies. I think these should be consistent unless they are referring to two different things; DoneAleutian06 (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- in the Organization of the Milita section, in the table there is a possible typo: "Col. R.C Byod". Is this correct, or should it be "Col. R.C Boyd"? Done Aleutian06 (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- there are a couple of places that I feel citations should be added, I've added the tags in those places (this is probably the only thing keeping the article from B class); DoneAleutian06 (talk) 18:00, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- the article probably needs more wikilinks. For instance, notable individuals, events and places could be linked on first mention; DoneAleutian06 (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Actually John of Reading did this for me.
- in the Organization of the Militia section, the table appears to be missing the names of a number of colonels. If this information is available, it would be good to include it; The names are blank because at that point not all counties had organized their militia regiments. Some counties, such as Hot Springs County did not organize until 1845Aleutian06 (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- in the References, the bare url chains could be hidden or embedded to give a "cleaner" look. AustralianRupert (talk) 12:42, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
More comments
edit- In the long table here, the entry for "Perry" has just "Regiment" with no number; is this correct?
- In that table, the entries within each brigade appear to be in a random order. Wouldn't an ordering by regiment number be better?
- The regimental numbers are not sequential in the official records. It appears that the Regimental numbering system was probably added later, somewhere between 1845 and 1861. When the Regimental Numbers were added, they appear to have just gone alphabetically for the counties that were in existence and had organized regiments. As additional Counties were created by the legislature or counties organized their militia regiment, they were included in the numbering system. Desha County, which was not organized until 1840, is the 6th Regiment, which Hot Springs County, which was created in 1829, apparently did not organize a militia regiment until 1845, so the militia regiment was number 47. I think the table could be organized one of several ways:
- By Brigade by Numerical Order
- By Brigade by Alphabetical Order
- By Brigade by the Order listed in the Militia Act. I will work on this, Aleutian06 (talk) 18:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- References such as "Baeur, Mexican War, p. 209" seem to require a "Works cited" section listing the full publication details of the work by "Baeur" Done The complete site is at fotenote 66, but it was messed up, I fixed it. Aleutian06 (talk) 18:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- A "Works cited" section would reduce the clutter of the multiple references to different sections of the "Revised statutes of the State of Arkansas: adopted at the October session of the General Assembly of said State, A.D. 1837"
