Range
editReliable and credible source is needed for the range claim. Not just a quotation saying "there are foreign sources that claim...". According to Wikipedia:No original research: article statements should not rely on unclear or inconsistent passages, or on passing comments. According to Wikipedia:Verifiability: do not use websites that mirror Wikipedia content or publications that rely on material from Wikipedia as sources. Flayer (talk) 08:02, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Israel Defense is a reliable source. Amir Rapaport is one of the most famous defense analysts in Israel. What Rapaport's site is publishing will be likely as much information as there exists in the public realm. Avaya1 (talk) 19:21, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Israel Defense DOES NOT claim there range is over 1000 km. Israel Defense only says that according to foreign sources the range is over 1000 km. What are these sources? Are they reliable? It should be easy to find and validate these sources. If not - then it is no more than a passing comment or a rumor, and therefore should be even mentioned, according to Wikipedia guidelines. Flayer (talk) 08:27, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- The range quotation purely relies on anonymous foreign sources: "ישנם אף פרסומים זרים לפיהם טווח היירוט של ה"חץ 3" עומד על כאלף ק"מ ואף יותר". This is clearly not enough. Flayer (talk) 14:15, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- An astonishing claim for a range of over 1000 km (or even 2,400 km) is very surprising, and therefore should be covered by multiple mainstream sources, as per Wikipedia:EXCEPTIONAL. Any exceptional claim requires multiple high-quality sources. An unheard–of range is such an exceptional claim. Flayer (talk) 14:32, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Is it an exceptional claim, if it's the only estimate in public? SM-3 has a range of 2,500 km according to our sources here (http://breakingdefense.com/2013/10/why-russia-keeps-moving-the-football-on-european-missile-defense-politics). What are the ranges of other modern exo-atmospheric SAMs? THAAD is much shorter range, but it never leaves the atmosphere and intercepts in the terminal phase, whereas Arrow 3 like SM-3 is designed to intercepted during the mid-phase. Also it's not clear if this includes the distance travelled by the kill-vehicle which releases outside the atmosphere. But our role as Wikipedia editors is to repost the information which is available in the public. We are not claiming to be an authoritative source, but simply to link to other reliably sourced claims. Avaya1 (talk) 19:30, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
