editI see this page was recently expanded to include extensive information on the environmental effects of arsenic and the closely related subject of arsenic toxicity. I see the material was reverted, presumably because this is covered in more general terms for arsenic elsewhere, at arsenic toxicity.
The edits were done by a participant in a Wikipedia education program, and had no obvious intrinsic problems of overemphasis or unsourced material, or copyvio. edits made were unexceptional. Where they should have been made is of course subject to discussion==but the view of an established editor in such matters is not necessarily better than that of a beginner: nobody owns an article. I would certainly as an admin and a long term ambassador in the program have discussed it before, rather than after reverting it. Simply reverting, and then restoring a very small portion is not a friendly way of treated good faith contributions. Rather, it would have been better to first discuss it, and then carefully remove or move what didn't belong. Comparing the versions, here's my opinion on the content -- just opinion, not judgment.
- I agree that the material on arsenic toxicity should be centralized, as it presently is, at Arsenic toxicity, rather than treated at the individual compounds. The differences between the toxicity of the various compounds should be made clear there. (it should also be mentioned at the article on each compound).
- There should be a separate presentation on environmental considerations. Because of the toxicity, there are environmental considerations. This should be either a separate article, or a part of the arsenic toxicity article, but it either case mentioned in the article on the compound.
The history of the compound should be treated extensively in the article on the compound. It is appropriate general information, of interest to others beyond chemists. Those who know chemistry obviously must decide on the purely chemical content, but there is no reason to think them more appropriate editors of other aspects, though their opinion on scientific errors is of course needed.
Unless there is objection, I propose to carry out these edits. DGG ( talk ) 15:49, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
