Petition to delete section "Interpretations" of article
editThis section, which focuses on the interpretation of two art objects from Benin, should be deleted. An "interpretation" by nature is in contrast with Wikipedia's policy of NPOV. Moreover, both of these objects emphasize the Western influence of Portugal on the art of the Benin kingdom, which flourished long before Western colonial presence arrived in Africa.--Alexandrathom (talk) 20:14, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
'Interpretations" are exactly that. Why should they be removed? You might as well remove any interpretations of the Mona Lisa or any work of Art or the interpretations of History or a novel ? As long as it is not ill informed or just plain wrong it should stay. Further, the sins of omission, why is there no reference to Benin's trade in slavery ? It was one of the main reasons for trade with the Portuguese. The Portuguese did not arrive and introduce slavery they found it thriving.Rinty123 (talk) 12:55, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Rinty123, don't be ill informed. Read more instead. Benin's "trade in slavery" was never that important to the kingdom and was never that extensive: http://www.persee.fr/web/revues/home/prescript/article/cea_0008-0055_1965_num_5_18_3035 — Preceding unsigned comment added by PersonablePerson (talk • contribs) 06:38, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
