Is there a regular editor for this article? I think someone should add something on this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32509637/ns/travel-news/) I'm willing if there is no more appropriate person - Acq3 (talk) 20:26, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed...he's an embarrassment to America, not knowing his own country's history. 68.83.72.162 (talk) 01:05, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Suggested deletion

I suggest that the FAIR-sourced statement in the article be deleted per this inasmuch as FAIR should not be used for contentious statements in BLPs.--Epeefleche (talk) 03:27, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

It should be pointed out on this page that his daughter Pauline has taken over the business. 143.232.210.38 (talk) 20:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Needs an overhaul

edit

This article needs a rewrite. Way too many of the citations are bare URLs and link back to the subject's own businesses. At least one is dead and one is to archive.org. Also I think the article could touch a little more on the fact he is at least considered to be somewhat of a pioneer in independent travel, at least for Americans. Some context would also be good. E.g. to some extent he and others road the wave of cheaper flights, increased travel, backpacking, etc. At one point the travel book industry was huge. I'm thinking Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, Fodor's, Bradt Travel Guides, Michelin Guide, Let's Go, etc. Probably have the article should be moved over to Frommer's so this article focuses on the person, not the business he started. --Cornellier (talk) 17:28, 12 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this article needs a rewrite. Among other things, it seems to delete Hope Arthur's role in the guidebooks and travel back in the beginning. I used the old guidebooks back in the day, and her interpolations on how to pack, etc., were one of the best parts of the books. Justthefacts21 (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
