Since 17 November 2018 we've been showing his DOB as 2 January 1892 in the lede (with a source), but 1 January 1892 in the infobox and main text. This discrepancy needs to be rectified one way or the other.
I notice that his obituary in the L A Times says "His widow gave his age as 66. Most authorities list it as 64." This suggests there may have been doubt about his year of birth as well as the date. I'm sure you know that, in countries where the registration of births has historically been poor, it's common to give the date of birth as 1st January (like they do with racehorses). So I'm doubting we'll ever get to the truth. The picture of his grave on Findagrave is too small for me to see whether there is a DOB on it. The particular source I used dates from 1978, so at least we know it wasn't copied from Wikipedia, but we can't be sure about any of the others. We could just change the DOB to "1 or 2 January" with an appropriate note. Deb (talk) 07:23, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
