editI've looked this up and I believe the verse this refers to is 2 Chronicles 14:12-13. Four of the five translations I looked at say Ethiopians so I doubt this is a translation problem. I'm trying to find out why someone posted that it was a mistake in the Bible. --Tornado419 07:13, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
Nubians ARE Ethiopians, sort-of. See Nubia.
This isn't an error, its like referring to the English as Anglo-Saxons, its just a different way to say it - textual criticism will tell you that the use of a term like Nubia is evidence that a source is older than one using a term like Ethiopia (or at least pretending very hard to be). In this case because Kings (generally thought to be pre-exilic) pre-dates Chronicles (generally thought to be post-exilic) by some 200+ years.
Oh, p.s. the New American Bible, that is to say the main bible used by Roman Catholic Americans, says that the ethiopian invasion is bollocks; an invention of the writer of chronicles - check the footnotes for yourself.

Asa is brother of Abijah
editChanged Asa to the brother of Abijah, not the son. If you compare 1Ki 15:1 and 1Ki 15:9, you will see that they have the same parents, and were therefore brothers.
Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 1Ki 15:1
And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 1Ki 15:9

- The Jewish Encyclopedia (for one) disagrees, so yout view seems to be OR.
- Also-- 1 Kings 15:10 says that Asa's grandmother’s name was Maakah, not mother. Also, Jeroboam was not the father of either one. He is just named as the king of the other Jewish kingdom for dating purposes. tahc chat 16:27, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
What's the source for an Arsah as his mother?
editSearching my computer program, I can't find this name in the KJV at all. And I skipped over both Kings and Chronicles and don't see anything similar. Does this name come from an Apocryphal source?--JaredMithrandir (talk) 16:03, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
