This article should adhere to the gender identity guideline because it contains material about one or more non-binary people. Precedence should be given to self-designation as reported in the most up-to-date reliable sources, anywhere in article space, even when it doesn't match what's most common in reliable sources. Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman") that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. Many, but not all, non-binary people go by singular they pronouns, which are acceptable for use in articles. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life, unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise. Former, pre-transition names may only be included if the person was notable while using the name; outside of the main biographical article, such names should only appear once, in a footnote or parentheses. If material violating this guideline is repeatedly inserted, or if there are other related issues, please report the issue to the LGBTQ+ WikiProject, or, in the case of living people, to the BLP noticeboard. |
This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons (BLP) policy, even if it is not a biography, because it contains material about living persons. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard. If you are a subject of this article, or acting on behalf of one, and you need help, please see this help page. |

The result of the proposal was moved. --BDD (talk) 17:53, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Gabz (singer) → Gabz – Can't see why anyone would call Gaborone "Gabz". --Relisted. -- tariqabjotu 17:37, 29 June 2013 (UTC) Unreal7 (talk) 19:57, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Comment are you from Botswana? There seems to be a Gaborone radio station named "Gabz", is that named after a nickname for the city? The article lists it as a nickname. Are you a Botswanan who doesn't like the nickname? -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 22:59, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose no proof given by nominator -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 23:05, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Weak support although it's WP:Recent can't really claim that the nickname of a Botswanan city is going to be primary. A hatnote in both directions will cover this. On the other hand, what harm will it do having (singer)? none whatsoever - other than confirming to searchers they've got what they were looking for. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:27, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
Weaksupport - I would agree with In ictu oculi in that the nickname of a city isn't really primary, but I think a hatnote would only be needed in one direction, not both. –anemoneprojectors– 09:41, 22 June 2013 (UTC)- Further comment - I did think at first that "Gabz Gardiner" was a more appropriate title, hence I created the redirect with that name, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) "don't use a first name (even if unambiguous) for an article title if the last name is known and fairly often used", but that was before I saw WP:STAGENAME. –anemoneprojectors– 09:41, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Move to Gabz Gardiner, which is what she was actually called on BGT. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:39, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Comment, it appears from her single cover that her music releases will be under the mononym Gabz, not the name Gabz Gardiner. –anemoneprojectors– 09:04, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- Nothing released as yet, so the name by which she is commonly known as of now is Gabz Gardiner. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- It's out on Monday and is being released under the name "Gabz" - see Amazon, for example. I believed the name "Gabz Gardiner" should be used at first, that's why I created the original redirect with that title, but she's recording under her mononym. If I've understood the naming conventions incorrectly, then I'll happily change my vote. –anemoneprojectors– 15:00, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- I've also just done a few Google searchs, and 'Gabz "The One"' gets 304,000 results with '"Gabz Gardiner" "The One"' getting 135,000 results. That's less than half. Changing "The One" to "Britain's Got Talent" gives Gabz 134,000 results and Gabz Gardiner 37,400 results, less than one third. So I think that shows she's better known as just Gabz, and the article title should reflect that - the same as with Madonna, Shakira, Ashanti, Kesha, Adele, Cher, Donovan, Prince... –anemoneprojectors– 16:05, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
