Significance in Indoor Environments

edit

Needs a section on A. niger indoors. Nemetona 18:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Badly needs disentanglement from "black molds" in the genus Stachybotrys, which are famous toxigenic indoor molds. And somebody'd better write a Stachybotrys entry to point to! --Nemetona 18:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is this the same mold as the black stuff that grows inside washing machines? Is bleach the best way to kill it? --Richard@lbrc.org 07:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I always associated with particulary nasty mold patches in apartment buildings, basements, etc...I'm wondering if this is also the same "black mold" you're referring to?

FYI - I have found that you can kill any mold in an indoor environment with a 50-50 mixture of Downey fabric softener and water sprayed right on it. This has proved effective on black mold and any other kind of mold I have ever seen. Cheap and easily available (in the U.S., anyway), not to mention environmentally friendly. And for any country that has soapwort plant, I would imagine that would work, since that plant has the same properties. 24.162.148.154 20:12, 1 March 2007 (UTC) Jackie WalkerReply

The picture of A. niger on PDA is of a very low quality. I am adding a better high quality picture in its place. Proquence (talk) 17:54, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Aflatoxins

edit

I can find no authorative source that says A. niger produces aflatoxins. Hence I have removed this reference. If this is not correct then cite the source. terr

Human Disease

This section needs improvement, and sources are needed for "egyptian tomb" and "peat" as a source of A. niger. --Nemetona 18:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nomeclature

edit

Aspergillus niger has been reclassified as A. brasiliensis. This entry requires update with the new name and the insertion of an A. niger entry pointing to the new name. If this requires a reference, then American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) is the best once to use.
