Logos
editI think we should lose the logos on the results tables, the page takes a week to load on dail-up. (Not to mention being a bandwidth killer form those, like USQ students stuck with tiny quotas (15M/half week.) They don't add anything to the content.Alex Law 17:09, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Football
edit"Football (soccer), commenced officially in 1988, and is now the most active sports in terms of players and number of competitions, with St. Ignatius' College dominating the winning of premierships and championships since the sport's official inception"
Two points, firsty there is no need to refer to SIC in relation to Soccer, none of the other sports talk about which school is more succesful in that particular sport, and secondly im pretty sure Rugby is still the number 1 GPS sport in terms of participation and general interest.
oh definately, although popularity of soccer is rising, rugby is far mor popular, and carries more more prestige. In most sporty GPS schools, soccer players are looked down upon by many rugby-oriented members of the community. - √αʑʑρεř 02:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Debating
editI think that debating should be included in this article, because it is something that all GPS schools compete against each other in and while I understand that it isnt a sport, it still deserves a place in the article. Probably the only good position for it was where it was, though there might be another heading where it could be added. --AMorris (talk)●(contribs) 06:06, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree anthony. I added debating to the sports history section - but it needs embellishment especially in 2004. Jpeob 03:06, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Why are Private schools called Great Public Schools?
editI hope the section heading is self-evident. --Garrie 06:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I couldn't give you a definite answer, but the answer would certainly lie for historic reasons. Perhaps the definition of "Public" has changed given the advent of masses of public schools in the late 1880s. Or even perhaps schools like Kings and Grammar were originally government-run schools (I don't think this is the case though), and have only recently reverted to being independent. I'm sure your school principal would know (I'm assuming you go to a GPS school). --mdmanser 08:58, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- In England still, the best private schools are reffered to as 'Public' and the government schools as 'government' and the most elite of the private schools are 'Grammer' schools. GPS schools still run on this tradition from England
GPS template
editWhy does the GPS template say GPS Schools Sydney New South Wales Australia, when TAS is clearly NOT in Sydney? I'll ask also on the template talk page if anyone's watching that. --Garrie 06:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Well Known GPS Sportsmen
edit1. This is not really part of GPS Members, it should be in a seperate section. 2. The use of school nicknames in this section is not encyclopedic. They should be replaced with the names used throughout the rest of the article. --Garrie 06:29, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Chess
editThis Year there's going to be a GPS chess tourdament at Sydney Boys High, should this be included? --Sharz 10:20, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Subdivision of Sports Results into Separate Pages
editThe list of sporting premiers is becoming ridiculously long in its current state, and certainly too long for an encyclopaedic article. So I'm proposing a subdivision of results into yearly lots. This could also constitue adding lower grade results into results too, as long as the statistics are available. I think the format that should be used is a results ladder, or in the case of debating perhaps (I'm not too sure how it works) even a bracket, if there is a knockout stage. All comments on this proposal would be greatly appreciated. I plan to undertake this within the next few days. Cheers, --mdmanser 08:55, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey, Great Idea,
I'd be glad to help you out with that --Sharz 11:07, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- maybe reducing the sizes of the crests would help - larger pages may well be deleted because of lack of WP:V and sources. Jpe|ob 12:32, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- now done Jpe|ob 12:41, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- could also save space by using the same emblem as the one used on their main wikipedia article rather than different ones --Sharz 06:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've changed the Kings one. however, this is an interesting issue because the newington logo used on the GPS page is different to the crest on the Newington College page and i think both are important. The only other different logo is the Sydney high logo - and i think the gps crest is better than the blue background one on the Sydney Boys High School page. Jpe|ob 07:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah I ripped the Newington logo from one of their newsletters. I'd assume that's their main logo if they use it in circumstances such as that. The Sydney High logo is a tough one - the one with the blue background is larger but the blue kind of kills it. Preferably we'd like to have ones with white backgrounds or no backgrounds. Should we still subdivide the seasons? I know you mentioned it on my talkpage Jpeob but I think it'd still be good if we could have different season summary pages as well. Thoughts? --mdmanser 08:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- No. I think there's precedent here in that generally, pages on wikipedia that are viewed as being un-maintainable (such as one that was recently deleted that listed the McDonalds menu in canada) should not be added. Especially when it would hard to cite enough sources to make it in line with WP:V, and the simple fact that such a page would be subject to vandalism from schoolkids and NPOV additions means that i don't think it's a good idea. Jpe|ob 08:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe if there was a singular page for all the previous seasons with summaries, easy to maintain, harder to read, but it's the price that's paid

Also, the Brown crest should be used for Sydney High, generally we don't use the blue backrounded version, I'm not entirely sure though --Sharz 06:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Former GPS Members
editIs there any explanation as to why former GPS members are no longer members even though they still exist today? Examples include St Stanislaus College, Bathust and All Saint's College Bathurst.
Apparent vandalism
editI've just reverted 3 edits by 202.0.64.104 (whose talk page marks it as being The Armidale School). They were changing the contents of the league tables: clearly vandalism since they had TAS winning before it was a member.
However, I also noticed some garbage formatting at the foot of the "Well Known GPS Sportsmen" list, and the source of the edits makes me suspect vandalism. Could someone with access to accurate information please check this out.
Order of Schools in Table
editI noticed that the order of schools in the table had been changed by a few individuals for no apparent reason over the last few months. I've simply changed it back to the original to show schools in the order that they were founded. The final "school colours" column has been removed too because it's pretty self explanitory with the logo alongside it, making it completely redundant. Reply here rather than reverting if you have any further issues. mdmanser 11:25, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
In my opinion the schools should be listed in alphabetical order as is the case with all other school association pages (refer Category:Australian schools associations). It just doesn't seem logical to place them in the order they were founded as one naturally assumes that lists such as these are in alphabetical order, especially when the names of the schools are located in the first column. That's my opinion.
And I should point out that Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview is not located in Lane Cove, rather (as its name suggests) it may be found in Riverview. Loopla 11:43, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
ryan davis?
editThis link goes to a Ryan Davis who is an American game-designer. The Ryan Davis from TKS was a departing year 12 in 2007. Can somebody please fix this link? Quintus132 (talk) 23:01, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Chess
editThe Guys that are listed and go to Grammer and Play chess, clearly have never been there, as they are ALL grand chess masters and after reading their profile it has nothing to do with Grammer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poyme4 (talk • contribs) 11:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Academic Quality
editSomebody needs to fix up or remove the list. Its too subjective to rate them on basis of 'academic quality'.
Fencing
editRemoved fencing as there is no GPS fencing - all schools competitive fencing is done at a state level. See nswfencing.org.au for details of state leagues, cups and championships —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.40.152.66 (talk) 23:57, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
