Diction
edit- The given reformed diction is correct ([1]).
- The given traditional spelling cannot be correct. It should be either Ատոմ Էգոեան or Ատոմ Էգօեան, pronounced as Adom Ekoyan by Western Armenians.
I got the impression that somebody ”invented” the traditional diction who does not know it. I am not a specialist of WA but have you ever heard of a Western Armenian who writes Պաղտասար in order to preserve the Classical pronunciation? I think Ադոմ is nonsense.
By the way, I do not like to label the diction Ատոմ Եգոյան as EA. Only the pronunciation makes the different between EA and WA, as some Eastern Armenians (especially պարսկահայեր) do not use the, sorry, Soviet diction. Kuddeldaddeldu 13:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Isn't he egyptian?
editbefore coming to wikipedia i searched him and found out that he was from cairo, egypt! http://particle.physics.ucdavis.edu/bios/Egoyan.html —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.130.43.123 (talk) 11:44:03, August 19, 2007 (UTC)
- The biography on his own web site says he is "Cairo-born, Canadian bred, and of Armenian descent".jeff.lopez-stuit 12:27, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I took the liberty of correcting Mr. Egoyan's name in Armenian. I hope no one minded this edit. Many thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Diamond Apex (talk • contribs) 15:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Biography
editThis sentence is full of peacock terms: "Four time Cannes Film Festival winner and the most famous Armenian filmmaker since Sergei Parajanov, the Egypt-born, Canada-bred, Oscar-nominated master of indie cinema, has collected an impressive 4 awards from the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.[6]"
"Master of indie cinema" and "an impressive 4 awards" sounds like some kind of press release, even if's a quote from the source (in which case, it should be listen as a quote, not basic encyclopedia content).
I'm just passing through this article and am pressed for time, so I'm not going to reword it, but someone should do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.247.151.10 (talk) 00:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Peacock terms, etc.
editI removed the peacock terms (and the peacock terms flag) and the IMDb references (Wikipedia wisely does not recognize IMDb as a reliable source). I corrected the broken external reference for the Dan David Prize and generally cleaned up the article. I also added a few internal links. I think it reads much more like an encyclopedia article now. If anyone objects to anything I did, please discuss it here before reverting. Thanks. --Jim10701 (talk) 03:22, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Age and Persona
editIt says in the page that Ingmar Bergman's film Persona was the film that opened his eye for the filmindustry and it also states that he saw the film when he was fourteen, and then there is a reference to an interview that is in a printed mediaoutlet (so I can't quickly read it).
The problem with this is that Egoyan is born in 1950 and Persona was released in 1966. So he can't have been 14 when he saw it because the film did not exist. Is it a typo, vandalism or is the original source wrong (or did he perhaps not remember correctly when he did the interview). If someone has quick access to the source check it out, because something needs to either be corrected or noted about it.
Answer to "Age and Persona"
editEgoyan was born in 1960, not 1950.
Opera?
editSomeone needs to comment on Egoyan's critically acclaimed opera productions with the Canadian Opera Company, including Salome and Cosi Fan Tutte
