I have a funny feeling

edit

that Diederick Santer has plans for this character. Has anything been said? anemoneprojectors 22:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think the actress turned down a full time role back in the 90s. She only wanted to do a recurring role. This may have changed, but I havent heard anything.Gungadin 22:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Isn't this the second time she's appeared this year? If she's coming for Christmas too, that'll be three. That's a lot for her. Not sure how I'd feel about her appearing more regularly, I never really liked Sal. anemoneprojectors 23:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeh, she was at Phil's wedding. She was amusing me tonight, dunno if she'd work fulltime tho.Gungadin 00:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
She's been in it loads since I wrote the above! Makes sense though. More people should be visited by their family. anemoneprojectors 16:38, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, maybe that's why the aliens abducted you for that year, because of your psychic powers!!! Spooky :) GunGagdinMoan 17:24, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

leaving?

edit

hey When Barbara Windsor leaves next year will Sal be making appearances only she probably wont be around if Peggy isn't?? 86.43.180.7 (talk) 20:37, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

No idea, though it seems unlikely. The only appearance she's likely to make after Peggy's gone is if Peggy dies and has a funeral. But we can't rule anything out. Sal is still Phil's aunt, so who knows? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 21:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
We know now that Barbara Windsor does want to return in the future, so Sal will probably remain a recurring character. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Martin?

edit

I'm assuming we call her Sal Martin because we don't know her married name. Is that right? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ya i suppose,it would be great if we could see her husband Harold onscreen sometime i'd say he would be an interesting character Brianwazere 23:40, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

She's only ever been credited as Aunt Sal, and her last name has never been mentioned, so we should move the page. anemoneprojectors 23:12, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
WRONG. I've added references to the page that link to the official BBC EastEnders website where she is credited as Sal Martin. She was always credited as Sal Martin during Kirkwood's tenure, like how he gave all the extras surnames too. 86.136.78.182 (talk) 21:09, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I checked IMDb for the actress which doesn't show a single credit for "Sal Martin", which is why I said she has only been credited as Aunt Sal. I like the way you have explained it in the article. anemoneprojectors 18:02, 12 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

No Return

edit

I can seriously say that the chance of Sal returning are very slim, I think her Duration should be 2007-2010, as I doubt she will come back. Also, she hasn't been seen in over a year now, so technically speaking, per WP:EE, her duration would have to be what I said. Dontforgetthisone (talk) 17:39, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Find a source to say she won't be returning. And how do you know she's not returning? How do you know that Roxy invites her down for her wedding if she ever has one, how do you know that Phil won't go and visit her? And the duration is fine as it is. It was discussed at the WikiProject. GSorbyPing 18:35, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
We cannot change things without sources. The reason you gave is self serving, just because you think something, does not make it fact. We avoid editing on POV. Unless a source is found to prove the theory, a statement saying she will never returnm, I think it is best if we forgetthisone.Rain the 1 18:40, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
FYI she appeared in April 2011. That's less than a year ago. –anemoneprojectors13:24, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

2013 return

edit

After this return, do we leave her on the present recurring character list for a year, or say she's departed? –anemoneprojectors10:23, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking 1 year rule... her family connections and past appearance pattern mean she is likely to return. Sal is the exact type of character that the 1 year rule works for. Bleaney (talk) 18:19, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I was hoping you'd say that. I agree :-) –anemoneprojectors21:38, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

so why was she reverted to former? I am chewing nails and pissing rust here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.0.97.133 (talk) 12:43, 3 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Maiden name - Thomas vs Martin

edit

In 2000, Frank and Peggy’s marriage certificate was shown on screen and showed Peggy’s father’s name as Harry Thomas. However in the book Who’s Who of EastEnders by Kate Lock, Peggy and Sal’s maiden name was given as Martin. Sal was credited for some appearances as Sal Martin. In 2006 when Phil drew the family tree for Ben, he said Peggy‘s parents were called Jack and Lilly. And Glenda referred to Peggy as “Peggy Martin” in 2010. Considering all this, I am of the opinion that more recent dialogue/credits should be used rather than a prop from 2000 which wasn’t referenced in the dialogue at all. So their parents should be referred to as Jack and Lilly Martin.

On the old EE website Eric Mitchell’s parents were listed as Harry and Eva Mitchell. Then on Phil’s 2006 family tree they were Robert and Sandra. But in 2009 when Archie turned up, Grandad Mitchell was consistently referred to as Phillip. So Wikipedia uses the two most recent/prevalent names given: Phillip and Sandra. This logic should apply to Peggy and Sal’s parents too.

The editor insisting that Peggy’s marriage certificate showing her father’s name as Harry Thomas proves that Martin is Sal’s married name isn’t taking into account the Who’s Who book (which lists it as Peggy’s maiden name) or the fact Glenda undeniably mentioned it as Peggy’s maiden name. 2A00:23C7:3E8F:3A01:CCE5:9B52:3FCA:F1B0 (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Surname

edit

While I think the current solution (Aunt Sal) is probably the right one, I will note that it's not impossible for Harold, Loretta and Lenny's surname to be Martin and Sal's maiden name to be Martin. It's quite a common surname, Sal Martin might have met and married an unrelated Harold Martin; or Harold may have taken Sal's name in marriage. Behind the scenes, yes it's probably a mistake that they had specified Peggy's maiden name was Martin and then named Harold Martin too; but it is explicable. DBD 09:29, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
