Wrong name

edit

Please note: the official name of the town ist not Nabrezina but Duino-Aurisana [1] Foreigner 10:02, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The original and most used (common) name of the village is Nabrežina due to its Slovene inhabitants. Therefore the article should be placed on that name. | Tcie 17:47, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

About the name

edit

If Aurisana is an official Italian city located in Italy since 1918, if the minority of its ihabitants are Slovenes (40%), if the official major language of Italy is Italian, and if even the monument to the victims of Fascism pictured in the article has its plaque is written in Slovenian and Italian, so there’s no reason to the this article be named with the non-official Slovenian name of the city.--MaGioZal 12:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The fact that it is in Italy is not relevent. Nabrezina/Aurisina is part of Fruili-Venezia Giulia which is a bilingual region and so both forms are fine. As far as I know, the term Nebrezina is most known in English due to the monument and the birth place of poets. --Xania  talk 20:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Majority

edit

The majority of people in Nabrežina are Slovenes (around 60 %) but some Wikipedians don't distinguish between percentage in the Devin Nabrežina municipality and the village of Nabrežina itself. The latter has higher percetage of Slovenes than the rest of the municipality. | Tcie 01:50, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is probably true but hard to prove because statistics don't seem to exist for the village itself and only the wider municipality. Also some statistics seem to count only 'Slovenians' (citizens of Slovenia now living in FVG) only and not all Slovene speakers (Italian and Slovenian citizens who speak Slovene). --Xania  talk 23:59, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

NabrežinaAurisina – 1) The settlement is in Italy, for which Italian place names are used as article titles (in the absence of English exonyms); 2) Aurisina is much more common than Nabrežina in Ngram data; 3) Aurisina is also much more common than Nabrežina in Google Books data: by a factor of 8 in any language ([2], [3]) and by a factor of 15 when filtered for English ([4], [5]).
