I wonder whether it would be better to combine the two tables, to make reading easier. ie.

Athlete Individual medals All medals including
team and heats
Years competed
Gold Silver Bronze Gold Silver Bronze
Shane Gould 3 1 1 3 1 1 1972
Ian Thorpe 3 1 1 5 3 1 2000 2004

Also, I think it might be better sorted alphabetically by surname. Article title should be uncapitalised 'swimming' -- I@ntalk 05:48, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Asterisks

edit

There are asterisks throughout these tables, but no footnote or clue about what they represent. Ordinary Person 15:50, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just saw this too. Am going to remove them until they're clarified. Dgen (talk) 23:04, 26 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Australian spelling should preside

edit

In Australia, it is spelled "medallists". Hesperian 02:15, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't mind. I'm quite unfussed by spelling. I would have instinctively used two l's but just copied the spelling from the main page to conform. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It does look a bit odd when even the Olympic site uses "medallist"[1]. Hack (talk) 09:51, 30 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Capitalization of "swimming"

edit

Why is this word capitalized? JHMM13(Disc) 05:23, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

An error, and you should have felt completely free to move it without my permission.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:55, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's better to ask first than be shouted at later, I like to say. :-D. Thanks for the help. JHMM13(Disc) 16:55, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, this page was a little hard to find. I'm unfamiliar with the processes of Australian Olympic-related articles, but you might want to consider finding a nice template for this article to fit into, much like the one found at the bottom of today's Featured Article. I think a template that could be worked into an Australian Olympic medalist series to be displayed on multiple pages with a sort of central article to be called something like "List of Australian Olympic medalists" would be very beneficial to the exposure of this great article. If none of this makes any sense to anyone (I'm not quite sure if I'm making too much sense explaining it...), I'm thinking about something like this that has links to the individual NHL seasons and, more importantly, links to other New Jersey Devils season articles. This article is a great place to start a project like that off. If this article and the one on the main page are any indicators, I'd say the guys working on Australian Olympic stuff is the right group for the job. Then again, if something like this already exists...just ignore everything I've said. Just a suggestion, JHMM13(Disc) 17:05, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Australia NOC symbol.png

edit

Image:Australia NOC symbol.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image Image:David Theile.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.
