Some Australian jamborees are also Asia-Pacific Jamborees. Should these pages be linked?

Merge of 21st Australian Jamboree to Australian Scout Jamboree

edit

This merge has been proposed for some time, but no discussion has taken place. An anon editor removed the merge tags today, with no explanation. I have reverted that as it seems to me that we need to debate it. --Bduke 22:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • You should have just moved the AJ2007 material as it makes sense to do so. There is a good argument for having separate articles on each AJ as they are quite significant events as regards their contribution to local economies etc Albatross2147 02:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • Maybe I should have. Each AJ may well be notable, but there is not a single source for any of the Jamborees other than the 2007 one in the article. Notability is confirmed if people outside Scouting recognise the event. --Bduke 02:42, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Support merge

  • The recent Jamboree is the only one that has it own article. Just because it is recent does not make it more notable than the others. All individual jamborees are not notable enough for an article and should be merged to the general article on Oz Jamborees. Indeed some people might argue that the general article should be merged to Scouts Australia. --Bduke 22:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • support merge-unless or until the article itself becomes larger than a paragraph and worthy of a full-fledged article, let it germinate in the ASJ article. Chris 05:12, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • support merge - it does not have enough to justify a separate article at the moment. RobBrisbane 10:14, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per bduke. The references on the 2007 articles show notability but no jamboree is any more notable than any other (except maybe 1987?? World Jamboree in Sydney) and so references from AJ2007 could be used in the more general article. :: maelgwntalk 12:03, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose merge

** Oppose. All the usual deletionista suspects here I see. Silliest arguments are those relating to brevity. Obviously on that criteria all bios ( < 10000 words?) should be moved to omnibus articles called People who are dead and People who are not dead yet Albatross2147 02:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment. While I am sure there is consensus to move the material, I would like to see some discussion about how much of the material from the recent Jamboree is merged and how the layout of the Australian Scout Jamboree be altered. Alternatively someone else other than me could just be bold and do the merge. --Bduke 10:56, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've been bold myself and done it. Feel free to modify what I did. --Bduke 23:16, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
