- Australian White →
Australian White rabbitAustralian White sheep - Messinese → Messinese goat
- Havanese → Havanese dog
All of these are descriptive of genuine human populations, and only animal breed experts would intuit that they don't refer to people, so the existing names fail WP:PRECISION policy (and probably also WP:RECOGNIZABLE, since only experts in obscure breeds of particular kinds of livestock, not domesticated animals generally, will recognize them at all). We routinely (and WP:NATURALly not parenthetically) disambiguate animal breed names in any cases where confusion may result. See years of previous RMs, and the contents of Category:Cattle breeds, Category:Goat breeds, Category:Rabbit breeds, etc. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 08:11, 24 January 2018 (UTC) In detail:
- "Australian White" is apt to be taken as referring to persons of European ancestry in Australia. This is why all the other white/black breed names were disambiguated. Furthermore, this is ambiguous with the
Australian White sheepAustralian White rabbit breed. Australian White should be a disambiguation page with at least three entries (two breeds, and a link to European Australians; create redirects to this DAB page from Australian white, Australian Whites, Australian whites, while White Australians already redirects to European Australians). - "Havanese" and "Messinese" are (and have been for a long time) generic adjectives meaning 'of/from Havana' [1] and 'of/from Messina' [2], respectively. This is exactly the same case as Nicastrese goat. These bare adjectives should redirect to the place names, since many things may be referred to as Havanese or Messinese (e.g. the people there [3][4], cuisine [5][6], local buildings [7][8], etc.)
- Support all per common sense reading of WP:CRITERIA In ictu oculi (talk) 08:40, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support all per above. Paintspot Infez (talk) 14:25, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support all Rreagan007 (talk) 16:43, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support the latter two per SMcCandlish. 142.161.81.20 (talk) 06:05, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
- Given the shipload of precedent, for exactly the same rationale, there's no cause to not support the first; it's the strongest case here. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 02:52, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the first be to "Australian White sheep", SMcCandlish? Galobtter (pingó mió) 08:20, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Good catch! At least someone followed the links before !voting. I propose to interpret it as intended under wp:snow. It's particularly red-face material as nom is the only editor of the proper target Australian White sheep as follows: 11:17, 2 October 2014 SMcCandlish (talk | contribs | block) . . Post move
editSMcCandlish, is that all OK now? Andrewa (talk) 15:53, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Right! Got my sheep and rabbit moves confused. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 23:27, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Whew! All good then I think. Andrewa (talk) 10:26, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- What happened was that in the course of noting that "Australian White" was just like "Welsh Black", "Florida White", etc., and needed to move, I also noticed the conflict between the Australian White sheep and Australian White rabbit breeds, and forgot which one I was actually editing the talk page of. I've corrected the RM text (with
strikethrough) so the RM makes sense to later readers. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 12:16, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
