Talk:Austrian Army during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars

Incorrect denomination

edit

I think the English denomination of this article is wrong. It should be translated from German as "Imperial-Royal Army". The name "Imperial and Royal" (Kaiserlich und Koeniglich, K.u.K.) referes only to the Army after the Ausgleich of 1867. Viator slovenicus 13:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reforms of the Archduke Charles & the Aulic Council

edit

This page briefly passes over the reforms the Austrian army underwent after Austerlitz. This was a huge deal at the time, there was all sorts of controversy swirling around the Archduke Charles in the court and highest ranks of the Military after he started to set about changing the army. Everyone was against it, and a lot of pressure was put on Francis II to stop it. Before this period the Aulic Council was the body that was in charge of all matters relating to the military, and it was woefully inadequate. This fact should be appreciated in the article before it discusses the reforms that took place. The Austrian Army; at this time, and for that matter throughout history, was abysmal.SteveSmithIIV (talk) 15:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name ("during the Napoleonic Wars")

edit

Is "during the Napoleonic Wars" really needed? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:00, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

– The article is misnamed. The term "Imperial and Royal" was not in common use at the time. The term was "Imperial-Royal" (after 1804 and perhaps before). This army is usually identified as "Austrian" or "Habsburg". I would not object to "Imperial Austrian". I have also expanded the disambiguator, since the article is not limited to the Napoleonic Wars. In fact, it is poorly organized and incomplete and not limited to the wars at all... "Imperial-Royal Army (1745–1804)" is another option. Srnec (talk) 18:38, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
