Well, perhaps when you mention "aux cable", you are never referring to anything other than a cable with phone plugs on it... But that is not the case for anyone with more than a few days' experience. Phone connectors were invented a very long time ago for use on telephone switchboards and I assure you that nobody ever called them "aux cables" or "aux connectors" there. In the present day, "RCA" phono connectors are very commonly used for the "aux" inputs on home audio gear.... would you claim that a cable plugged into such a jack could not be an "aux cable" because it doesn't have a phone connector on it? And conversely, phone connectors are used for a huge number of types of signals and connections other than those labeled "aux". For one thing, they are on the ends of nearly every set of headphones or headsets made in the last several decades. How are those "aux cables"? Jeh (talk) 19:02, 9 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
