Talk:Avenue House Grounds

Latest comment: 8 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

A Barnet Libraries brochure published in 1989 stated Block quote, The Pleasantly wooded grounds provide a perfect setting and include many rare trees, such as the Caucasian wingnut, Pterocarya fraxinifolia, from Northern Persia, and the large Hungarian oak, Quercus frainetto. According to popular received knowledge, the extensive landscaping was undertaken to provide work for local unemployed in the 1880s.

I am a student on placement there and came across this brochure in a local house. We still have the rare Hungarian oak, but I'm going to have to check the wingnut. I find the above paragraph quite hilarious because of the current state of the economic crisis, and of the gardens, which are under new management (Avenue House Estate Trust).
