"Support for Haspel as CIA Director"

edit

This section is a WP:BLP violation. The content is written in a clear negative WP:POV. The text asserted that In 2018, Haines was an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump's controversial nomination of Gina Haspel to serve as CIA director. The sources it includes does not suggest that. One says Avril Haines, a former CIA deputy director and onetime White House deputy national security adviser, said Haspel "is intelligent, compassionate, and fair" and has "an unparalleled understanding of the institution, the agency's work, and she will support the workforce - all attributes the agency needs from its director." and the WH primary source simply echoes the "intelligent, compassionate, and fair" quote. That's not an "outspoken supporter". That's some positive words. From there, the section then describes Haspel's reported involvement in black sites, which has nothing to do with Haines, the subject of this article. That's a WP:COATRACK. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:26, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Did you write this before I inserted the text? If it was here, I apologize for not discussing first. Anyway, I agree with the importance of NPOV content to a BLP. But the topic is important and well cited enough to merit inclusion. What do you think of this rewrite? It would remove a lengthy discussion of Haspel's records and stick with secondary sources. Many sources discuss her support for Haspel, so some mention is warranted.

In 2018, Haines was a supporter of President Donald Trump's controversial nomination of Gina Haspel to serve as CIA director. Haines praised Haspel's knowledge of the agency and intelligence. Critics of Haines' endorsement of Haspel said Haspel was reportedly involved in the operations of CIA secret black site torture sites in 2002 and 2003 and had supported waterboarding.

I would go with this: In 2018, Haines was a supporter of President Donald Trump's controversial nomination of Gina Haspel to serve as CIA director. Haines praised Haspel's knowledge of the agency and intelligence. Critics of Haines' endorsement of Haspel said Haspel was reportedly involved in the operations of CIA secret black site torture sites in 2002 and 2003 and had supported waterboarding. (If you leave out the controversy, you are omitting critical information/context related to Haines' support for Haspel. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcywinograd (talkcontribs) 17:58, January 19, 2021 (UTC)

Looks good to me. Hopefully user:Muboshgu will weigh in. Bangabandhu (talk) 17:41, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
That doesn't address my points. I don't agree with including it at all. She made a positive statement about Haspel. It's not biographically significant to Haines. The rest of it is all about Haspel, not Haines. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:14, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Was Donald Trump president or has Wikipedia decided that he was just too good so they can't mention him?

edit

Does Wikipedia think that by deleting Donald Trump's information that they will make the country a better place? 24.165.132.15 (talk) 12:41, 11 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
