Alt text

edit

As a quick expedient, I have added very basic alt text for the ribbon images ("Ribbon bar image refer to adjacent text"). Arguably to achieve the intent of alt text (WP:ALT, this description should be expanded to give a sense of the ribbon's design. This would take more time to achieve [an observation, not a reason for not doing it]. I am interested in other's thoughts on whether ultimately the alt text needs to provide a concise description of the ribbon's design. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 02:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Order of wear for foreign medals

edit

I think some earlier foreign medals like the Khedive's Star were worn among British campaign medals. Opera hat (talk) 10:17, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Or maybe not. Here's the Duke of Connaught wearing it last. I'll remove the "dubious" tag. Opera hat (talk) 16:55, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Medal Mounting

edit

There are two ways of mounting medals, swing and court. When I finish my service in 1982 all three services used swing mounting for full sized and miniature medals. Even Royalty used swing mounting. On parades and at formal dinners, you could hear them tinkling against one another. Not any more. At some point this changed and medals (full sized and miniatures) are now almost exclusively mounted in court style. If an ex-serviceman of pre-82 vintage wanted to have his medals re-mounted, which style should they be done in? Is there a Queen's Regulation to govern this? Does it matter? And finally should it be mentioned? Kiltpin (talk) 18:26, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Last page of this doc makes reference to court mounting: [1]. Cheers EricSerge (talk) 19:37, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merge from British campaign medals?

edit

Would there be any reasons not to? All other national articles that I know of seem to collect the information in one article only. PPEMES (talk) 21:59, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be too long so no. BlueD954 (talk) 03:52, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
