Naming
editI have rewritten this section as 'accepted' belief based on incorrect information cannot be offered to the reader as fact. Kent's Oak has been the name written on maps to denote that particular location (intersection of Danes Road, Romsey Road and Saunders Lane) for over 250 years at a time when there were only a handful of buildings. As the footprint of the settlement has grown the location is still Kent's Oak. At the same time the hamlet which shares the same name as the Parish has remained along the B3084 and unsurprisingly also on Awbridge Hill.
All place names have an origin, if the hamlet of Kent's Oak name is derived from the large oak tree that still stands in the Primary School grounds then this bond to the local natural history is a significant one.
There are also other geographical errors which have been removed. The Post Office location was at the junction of the now B3084 and Romsey Road. Upper Ratley is located along Church Lane and does not extend further north along Danes Road. Similarly Lower Ratley is located at the intersection of Church Lane and Coombe Lane. 212.159.114.220 (talk) 23:43, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
