Cheddington to Aylesbury Line
editThis is my solution to being unable to edit or 'talk' in the related 'Cheddington to Aylesbury Line' Wikipedia page. So that misconception propogation is at least reduced to a minimum I want it known that all but the second sentence in this statement from that page are quite mistaken: 'The main reason for the closure of the line was mainly due to competition from the other 3 railway companies (LNER, GWR, MR) operating from Aylesbury Town station. These three train companies all operated trains to London while the LNWR could not as the line went north towards Cheddington instead of south towards London. Until the late 19th century, the line was heavily used for the transportation of the famous Aylesbury duck from Aylesbury to London markets. After 1900, the trade had died out in Aylesbury due to various reasons.' There were, in my view, three main contributing factors to the closing of the line at that particular time, none are touched on in the 'Cheddington to Aylesbury Line' (or the present) Wikipedia entry. I hope someone more computer-able and Wiki-wise than I is able to remedy this. Thank you Tony Newman (talk) 20:35, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Closure factors
editHi Tony, could you elaborate on your statement above - what were the factors in the closure of the station, and can you provide any sources for these - the more detail you can give (i.e. author, title, ISBN etc) the better . If we have this information we can then amend the article. ColourSarge (talk) 11:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
