Seems to me that it would be better to use reference name tags for the Jean Hamilton book citations. The same page is cited twice so there's really no need to repeat the entire citation twice. This is just a format change and will not affect any of the cited information at all. For reference, this could be easily done as follows:

The building was four stories high, with a different aspect of canoe construction completed on each floor. <ref name="JH"> Hamilton, Jean, ''History of Veazie, Maine'', p.33, may be seen on line at http://www.veazie.net/public_documents/VeazieME_WebDocs/HistoryofVeazie.pdf</ref> When the shop behind the family home became too small for the growing company, it was replaced by a large factory-complex consisting of nine buildings, each serving a step in the canoe-building process.<ref name="JH" />

which would look like this

Citation style change proposal

Note

The content is essentially the same, but I did change some of the wording to make it more suitable for discussion on this talk page. For reference, no reply was received to my original post. I think it might be a little better to use citation templates when citing sources. Citation templates make it easier to add more information about a particular source because there are so many different parameters available for use. Citation templates can also make it easier to prevent link rot by fixing broken or dead links because the more information an editor knows about a citation, the better chance they have of fixing it. Moreover, the more information a reader knows about a particular source, the better chance they have of verifying the information elsewhere. Here is a specific example taken from the article so that you can see the difference between the current style and what I am proposing.

At first glance, there seems to be no difference at all; the citation will pretty much look the same way in the article regardless of which style is used. However, if you look at the respective "References" sections, the difference between the two styles is easier to see. I understand a template is not required to add more information to a citation; Templates just, in my opinion, make adding that information easier. Furthermore, I understand the style currently being used is fine per WP:CITESTYLE, and that other editors are supposed to defer to it per WP:CITEVAR. However, "CITEVAR" also allows for a change to be made if is there is a consensus for doing so. Comments from other editors would be most appreciated.
