Merge?

I propose that all the info from B7.1 and B7.2 be merged with this article as they individually are just stubs. If, as and when they are improved they can be moved to their own pages later. I'd oppose the merge, but I would support having the B7 page discuss the common aspects of CD80 and CD86. --Arcadian 15:08, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

I was going to suggest the same - individual blocks on the page which note the similarities and differences between the two. By themselves, the pages B7.1 and B7.2 are very short. If they could be expanded, then I'd agree with leaving them on their own pages. In their current form, however, I propose we add them to this page as the subtypes of B7, compare the two and expand on their functioning. xCentaur | ☎ 16:18, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

As best as I can tell now, there is not enough known about CD80 and CD86 to merit two separate articles. There are suggestions that they are slightly different (for example, see Bhatia et al, PNAS, October 25, 2005, vol. 102, no. 43, 15569-15574). However right now, most information for the CD80 article would be copied into the CD86 one as well. I favor merging these articles but separate sections in the B7 article overall. We can keep separate protein box information on them. For someone unfamiliar with costimulation, the B7 family concept is more important than whatever minor differences between CD80 and 86.
