I don't think the Skoda 9.45 can be called unsuccessful. This gun demonstrated that a heavy field howitzer was a practical proposition. These howitzers were purchased for use in the Boer War to reduce the Boer forts around pretoria, Pretoria was captured before they arrived. They were then sent to China for use against Tien Sien, again the war was over. In WW1 9.2 has to be thought of as a 'companion'to 8in How, production was set at 3 9.2 for every 5 8in. History of "Mother"

Text currently : "The weapon returned to Britain in July 1915 and was fired at the Shoeburyness ranges until worn out. With its barrel relined, it was reissued to France in 1917". Yet the film "Battle of the Somme" appears to show "Mother" firing. ? Rcbutcher (talk) 11:21, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
