Untitled
editI just did a fairly major re-write of the page splitting it up into sections and adding links to other wikipedia articles. As a GS rider and member of GS Club UK I wanted the page to better represent the bike. --Cheesy Mike 11:28, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Ligature
editThe article should be renamed Gelände/Straße. There really is no other way to write that word. --87.189.116.19
The article should be called BMW GS (Unsigned comment by User:213.106.111.41)
- I agree, it should be called either BMW GS or BMW GS motorcycles. Based on WP:BOLD I might just go ahead and do it - paying attention to all the pages that link here of course. --Cheesy Mike 18:19, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed. --Cheesy Mike 18:52, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Name / Links
editHello! Why don't you choose the name "BMW GS"??? Like them: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_GS http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_GS
BMW F 650 ST Strada and HP2 are surely not GS!
- Good question, I don't like the name either. --87.189.126.65
- Fixed! --Cheesy Mike 18:52, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Links
editWhy is the link to the a uncommercial german site (http://www.w-onroad.de/gs) not allowed? (But the site of a Owners club in Japan?)
--213.240.148.20 14:46, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Good question, I removed them. --87.189.126.65
Article name changed to BMW GS
editI have changed the article name to BMW GS and have modified all other articles which link to it. --Cheesy Mike 18:52, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Another source on influence
edit"All, to some degree, are chasing the runaway success of the BMW R1200GS, pioneer of the genre and the impetus for a European subculture of hotels, restaurants and leisure activities catering to motorcyclists on long rides." Adventure With an Italian Accent By Jerry Garrett, February 21, 2014
There are large numbers of sources crediting the GS with starting the adventure bike genre, but this NYT article goes so far as to credit the bike with the creation of a tourist infrastructure. Not sure why he mentions the 1200 and not 1100. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:19, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

I have just added archive links to one external link on BMW GS. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}

Help with footnote
editI added a new entry under “Single-cylinder chain-drive” but I don’t know how to format footnote citations. If somebody can correct it for me, I would be willing to add one for the citation needed in the following section MrHandsEnumclaw (talk) 00:16, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
