Japan Hot 100

Are the Japan Hot 100 chart peak positions for Japanese singles correct? In the chart history provided as source I can't find none of them, with the exception of:

• I Need U, which "re-entered" the chart during the December 19, 2015 week, so it's probably the Korean version;
• Run, Blood Sweat & Tears, DNA were already charting weeks before the Japanese single release, so those positions are most likely referred to their Korean versions;
• Mic Drop has the specification "with Designeer", so it's not the Japanese song.

Language seperation

BTS track Your eyes tell is missing on this page

Hi. I want to notify that the BTS track 'Your eyes tell' is not mentioned in this page. The track is featured in the OST of a Japanese movie, which is also titled Your Eyes Tell (source:https://www.soompi.com/article/1411716wpp/btss-upcoming-japanese-b-side-track-to-be-used-in-ost-for-japanese-remake-of-korean-film) and it received the Silver Certification from the 'RIAJ' Japan Music Association on November 2020 (source: https://www.riaj.or.jp/f/data/cert/st.html). Sales

Is this saying DNA sold 1m copies and Dynamite 2m? Language separation (again)

As Lirim said in 2019, is there a particular reason BTS’ discography page is separated by language? We don’t do that for English/Spanish artists so I don’t see why we need to do it for BTS, especially since it messes with the flow of the table and because some of their Korean songs have some English lines and vice versa. It would make more sense to sort it chronologically. Additionally, I’m not sure the soundtrack appearances need their own table either since they’re singles. I tried to sort the table chronologically, but the issue is that the Japanese certifications would not make sense unless we treat them as completely different single entrys in the list. For e.x. this is how it would be sorted properly

Now where do we put the 2× Platinum Mic Drop and DNA got in Japan? It was released as a double A-side single so the cert. is for both, so the table has to show that somehow. We could use a note saying that the certification is for both singles or we do treat them like a different release. Another problem is the Japan Hot 100. It is sadly not nearly as clear as the regular hot 100. The japanese version of some songs chart differently and are for whatever reason not combined. Soundtrack appearances only need a seperate table if they were not released as singles, but in BTS' case they were, so that can be combined easily. Another thing that I would change is, to remove the US World chart from the list. Basically all major BTS releases since "DNA" have charted on the Hot 100 and I don't think we need the component chart anymore. —Lirim | Talk 20:52, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

The problem with the Japanese Hot 100 is going to be there regardless. But I don’t see an issue with treating the Japanese releases as separate releases. That solves the certification issue. I think the entries could be combined. Example:

I have no issue w combining everything (I assumed all this time that splitting by lang was how it's supposed to be done) as long as we have a workable alternative to current practices (which make things easy to read+note out) that doesn't present new problems, like Lirim's query re: the Japanese singles. I did some moving and merging today, and updated the infobox+opening sentence. I looked at the Beyonce+TSwift for guidance for the infobox changes. At my count, the As lead artist table lists 38 singles including Crystal Snow, Don't Leave Me, Airplane Pt.2 and Lights. Crystal Snow is also listed in the "Other charted songs section" but I don't understand why that is. I left DLM in the Soundtrack section (which will soon be gone altogether) for now because the main singles table doesn't have a col for France and I didn't know whether to add one or not. Once advised, I'll merge its info from there+the "Japanese" segment into the upper part of the main table. The remaining songs in the Jpn segment are the ones related to the issue mentioned in the orig discussion so I've left those alone. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:02, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

@Lirim.Z: that's all well and good but telling me you're reworking it in your sandbox doesn't help re: what I asked for advice on. @Carlobunnie: I'm reworking the article in a sandbox, because it is just my suggestion how I think it would look the best. I wouldn't have just copied the sandbox into the article space and ignored every opinion. I' sorry I should have mentioned that. To your points: We can add basically every chart we want. I suggest Malaysia, because it is one of the few Southeast Asian music charts that exist and BTS is very successful in the country. We can also add the France or Ireland or whatever. I also have no idea why "Crystal Snow" is in the Other charted songs section. Maybe I can't count, but I get 41 singles if "DNA"/"Mic Drop"/"Crystal Snow"; ""Fake Love"/"Airplane Pt. 2"; "Boy with Luv"/"Lights" are counted each as one song for the Korean versions and as double/triple A-side singles.--Lirim | Talk 20:08, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

@Lirim.Z: I have no problem w your working on the revamp in your sandbox. It was just the fact that you mentioned that alone as opposed to responding to what I asked that was my issue, nothing else. If others also count 41 in total, then I/someone else can update it. I don't think the France digi chart must be included. Only asked because once I remove DLM from the Soundtrack table there'd no longer be any mention of it. I've no problem if you think Malaysia should be added. I do think the BB WDS chart should remain in the table but that's just me, and consensus dictates whether it stays or goes at the end of the day. Current language separate is not even following a set of rules. There is MIC Drop, which mostly follows the remix, but has a note of the Korean version's rank. But then Japanese songs are separated. Even Japanese which are versions of the Korean song. There are no rules being followed here. It needs to be either ranked separate or together, and based on the conversation above it was decided together so I'm not sure why that has not happened yet. And then only certain Japanese songs are listed in the Japanese section. BTS did not debut in Japan in 2017. I believe it was 2014 they made their first Japanese song, so if Japanese is the exception why are those one not there as well? Ukiss2ne14lyfe (talk) 19:09, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

If you check the page history you'll see that I started merging the separate lang singles a little while back. I moved most of them, but left the remaining ones because Lirim was working on the best way to fit those in and I didn't want to do anything contrary to that. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 21:18, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

2022 update

Anyone still interested in getting this done finally? It's just the few singles in the "Japanese" section left to merge into the main part of the "As lead artist" table. I've moved everything else I thought could be moved atm (that I didn't think would be confusing or cause issues). "Bad Decisions" Billboard sales

The BB article for the song's Hot 100 entry says it sold 66,000 copies in the US, but the article for the Global charts entries says it sold 40,000 worldwide (Global 200, includes US sales) and 21,000 worldwide (Global 200 Excl. From my understanding of the 66,000 copies would be for the US only. In the other article it mentions "The two charts, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S." Btspurplegalaxy 🗩 🖉 22:42, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes ik all of that. I'm not talking about what the chart metrics are, but about the sales quoted. BB says BD sold 66,000 copies in the US (Hot 100), then it says BD sold 40,000 copies worldwide (Global 200). If the Global 200 includes all sales then there's obv a discrepancy because how can the song sell 66k in the US but only 40k globally? I know I’m like a year late but for future reference, the Billboard Hot 100 takes into account direct-to-consumer sales (I.e., from the artist’s website) while the Global 200 only counts downloads from storefronts like iTunes, Amazon, etc. CAMERAwMUSTACHE (talk) 19:24, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Note L

I think note L has a mistake. The note talks about "spring day" but at the beginning it says "not today".

The latter does not need deletion. I corrected the song title in note L from "Not Today" to "Spring Day" and corrected the peak position in note O from #3 to #9.
