Gate/Neighborhood
editI've reverted Preacher lad's removal of information about the neighborhood. The gate, has given the name to the area around it (which is something very common in Syria - Bab Sharqi in Damascus, Bab al-Sebaa in Homs), and while it is conceivable that a separate article for each can exist, I think it's simply impractical and counter-intuitive in this case. There are very few RS that speak of Syria's local geography (or architecture, for the gate) to sufficiently populate these two articles (and subsequently make them eligible for a split). If split, as it is now, you'll be left with two articles that are underwhelming, less than detailed and less than comprehensive. Instead we can have one comprehensive article that covers the whole subject, especially considering how integral they are to each other (the gate, and the neighborhood). In addition, the relationship between the two is not all that ambiguous, and is sufficiently explained in the lead, so anyone reading the article would understand it well. - As I'm the one who's been writing about the neighborhood, naturally I agree with Yazan's reasoning. The article describes the chronological development of Bab al-Nairab from the original Ayyubid gate which marked the southward expansion of Aleppo to the historic and present-day quarter that developed around the gate which no longer exists. Speaking of which, although many of the sources agree that the gate no longer exists, none seem to say when. Therefore I've removed the bit about it being ruined during the Ottoman era. Until we get a reliable source, the article will just state something along the lines that Bab al-Nairab gate no longer exists. --Al Ameer son (talk) 04:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
