Sultanate

edit

Would be nice to include history of Bacanese Sultanate, if anyone is up to it. --Gholton 19:08, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

The treaty of 1869.

edit

The treaty of December 20, 1869 between the Sultan of Salawatti and the Italian explorer Giovanni Emilio Cerruti was an attempt of the Sultan to "change the colonial ruler". For 2,000 silver florins monthly, the sultan accepted the Italian rule. An Italian war ship had to take the Bacan Islands within 4 months. The Italian government, however, rejected the treaty signed by the own emissary, just to avoid a diplomatic crisis with the Netherlands. Italy rejected also the treaties concerning the Kai and the Aru islands, for the same reason. Move

edit

Not sure how this ended up here, but it obviously needs to be moved to Bacan, Bacan (islands) or Bacan Islands rather than the current mangled grammar. — LlywelynII 11:13, 1 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
