Why is this separate from Iranian Revolution? Why isn't this written as connected text? --Wetman (talk) 04:11, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Iranian Revolution article was too long and the uniqueness/causes of the uniqueness of the Iranian Revolution is a notable issue. --BoogaLouie (talk) 23:54, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
It was orginally done in bullet form as there were a lot of short issues to cover --BoogaLouie (talk) 18:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Title change

edit

The title has been changed from Background and causes of the Iranian Revolution to Background and causes of the Islamic Revolution with no discussion.

Not too sure this is a good idea. There ought to be something identifying the revolution as Iranian. Maybe Background and causes of the Iranian Islamic Revolution. --204.169.161.1 (talk) 18:26, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reverting

edit

Reverting Npz1. The edit was originally reverted by someone else. Per BRD and good form, the editor who wants it included should use the talk page. I am not as well versed in this topic but can understand why someone else might see it as problematic. Also, what is with "impoverished"? Too fluffy unless it means it literally.Cptnono (talk) 03:07, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

criticism

edit

i think the article in it's current form fails to analyze the background and causes of this revolution. where is the mention of the oppression of virtually all political forces except those who supported an absolute monarchy for almost all of the reign of the shah, of the human rights situation, the limitation of freedom of expression, the economical situation which were difficult for many...?

"His strong policy of Westernization and close identification with a Western power (the United States) despite the resulting clash with Iran's Shi'a Muslim identity." -

iran's identity certainly isn't sheer "shia muslim", which manifests inter alia in that nowruz, a pre-islamic feast was and is the most important for the overwhelming majority of iranians (w/o being decreed from above). the Shah's westernization was at odds with un-islamic but iranian traditions or needs, e. g. the bazar trader's saw the coming of department store chains as rivalry to their business. the disaffection of parts of the population with the dependency of the shah's regime (their country) from the USA isn't something genuine islamic neither (such sentiments were/are present in latin america e.g. as well).

still, many consider the revolution "stolen" by the mullahs. leftist, liberal, constitutionalist, nationalistic political forces supported the revolution but they didn't want a takeover by the mullahs and a new dictatorship. many underestimated the role khomeini intended to play. these forces were ousted by the new potentats one by one then.--Severino (talk) 09:49, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

i have to withdraw my first point of criticizm, the leck of democracy is covered as well as the economic sitution.--Severino (talk) 21:02, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
