Temperature data in Farenheit

edit

Why is the temperature data in Farenheit? No one uses Farenheit these days. It must be in Celsius. 58.27.162.106 (talk) 03:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

330 million Americans disagree that no one uses it, but I agree that Celsius would be useful. CsikosLo (talk) 16:17, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

edit

Whats the reference and historical reference to the name and a person called Maharaja Derbar Raja of Gemeron exist? Maharaja and Raja doesnt sound Persian at all. Moreover during that period, Shah was used for Kings. So what was his original name? Thanks

English Trading Concession: "Half of Bandar-Abbas"?

edit

From http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/tehranbureau/2012/04/iran-standard-time-nowruz-on-the-hormuz.html:

A man wearing a sharp suit, who looks impressively unruffled in spite of the delay, struck up conversation. "You British are cunning," he said, didactically pointing his finger at me. "Do you know your King James did a deal with Shah Abbas to kick out the Portuguese and take half of the port duties of the town [Bandar]." Reza, a businessman based in Sharjah but from the provincial capital of Lar, explains that the Strait of Hormuz was as strategic in the 17th century as it is now: in 1622, the British along with 50,000 Persian soldiers loyal to the Safavid Shah Abbas destroyed the Portuguese navy, captured the island of Hormuz, and shifted the balance of power and trade in the region in Britain's favor. Demonstrating the Iranian psyche's brilliant grasp of history, Reza runs through some other Albion-related injustices: The D'Arcy concession, the Reuters concession, the establishment of the Peacock throne, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, and of course, Mosaddegh.

If the above is verifiable, it should be included in the article, showing as it does the continuing historical importance of the Straits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.161.245.254 (talk) 21:11, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
