Gold severum article

edit

Most parts of this article was transferred from the gold severum article. The gold severum article will now redirect to this one. Also fixed the scientific name, as the severum is now Heros severus not Cichlasoma severum. Melanochromis 18:14, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Issues on Accuracy

edit

As a avid keeper of these fish, a lot of the information on this page is incorrect.

the common fish found in the aquarium trade with the colours 'green, gold, Red Spotted, and turquoise' is 'Heros Efasciatus'

the fish known as the 'Rotkeil Severum' or 'Red Shoulder Severum' is a unclassified species, known as 'Heros Sp. Rotkeil'

The fish pictured is a 'Heros Notatus' or 'Spotted Severum'

Heros Severus is a very different fish from these that is a mouth brooder and cannot hybridize with the Aquarium strains due to it's different breeding behavior (although genetically it is possible)

You should also add some info about the sexing of this fish, Males being typically larger, with longer extended finnage and with snake like markings on the face. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Glenbo1981 (talkcontribs) 22:15, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Confusion About Page Scope

edit

This page is very confusing. Portions of the page refer to severum as a particular species (Heros severus), but other portions talk about different severum species. Plus, the page features a photo of Heros notatus. This page mentions that many fish labeled Heros severus are actually Heros efasciatus, and other sites I have found say it is also sometimes confused with Heros appendiculatus. I think morphing this page into a discussion of the various severum species and adding a species page for Heros severus would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raran75 (talkcontribs) 15:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
