GA Review
edit- This review is transcluded from Talk:Barbara L/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
The article is quite good, though on this one I found a couple issues:
- "Her total earnings on the racetrack were $32,836 ($267,806." <-- I tried fixing that but can't seem to figure out why it's showing like that.
- Gary fixed it before I could, thanks Gary! Ealdgyth - Talk 14:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- I assume the broodmare second paragraph all uses the same ref, hence just one at the end? (just making sure)
- Yes, you are indeed correct. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- "Barbara L's 1968 foal did not start a race" Is there a name for the foal?
- There is, but it was actually a 1969 foal (typo that I've corrected). I threw the name in, but I was trying to avoid name overload a bit. This foal didn't do anything, and I'm not sure that she ever produced anything either. Anyway, name's in there now.
I'll put it on hold then pass when it's taken care of. Wizardman 02:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
I think I might have fixed the first point. I noticed, though, that the infobox and "Racing career" sections give the total earnings as $32,836, but the lead gives a total of $32,834. GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:35, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Official record gives 32,836. So I've standardized on that. (I suspect the 834 figure's from an article or something else.) Ealdgyth - Talk 14:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Everything looks good now, so I'll pass the article. Wizardman 22:31, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Thoughts
edit- "Against some of the giants of the breed" - is this metaphoric or literal (i.e., is it that she beat the most successful horses of the day, or that she could beat larger horses)? I assume the former.
- Reworded so it's not so colloquial. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Don't know if this is a standard convention, but should Lumpkin be listed as "owner" in the infobox along with Green, if he was her owner for a significant part of her career?
- Oversight on my part. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Appreciate there may not be sources for this, but do we know why Lumpkin used an expensive horse with an illustrious pedigree to demonstrate his horse trailers, when presumably any old nag could have done the job just as well?
- No clue. My guess is she was too young to start racing yet. Maybe she was just not scared of crowds. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Do we know where she came from, or is "registered as bred by James Hunt of Sonora, Texas" the closest we have?
- That's it. Hunt bred most of his horses there in Sonora, but he bred a LOT of horses, so it's not like we can say "She foaled in Hunt's front yard" or anything like that. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Do records exist for her height, speed etc?
- Height and weight, no. Her speed is the speed indexes she recorded. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Is there any horse in the entire country that isn't descended from Peter McCue? He seems to pop up every time.
- There are some. I did a pedigree for a mare a while back that had no documented PMC blood in her. (Undocumented, I'm sure there was plenty...) Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Other than that, can't see anything glaring. – iridescent 13:49, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks muchly, I think I can turn this over to Malleus soon. Going to check with Moni also. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
