What Constitutes an Alternate Use
An explanation of my methodology so 7&6=thirteen will stop reverting my changes. An alternate use is by definition nonstandard. The sections which I removed were full of such gems of rationality as "has been observed to look like" I left in numerous examples where visual similarity lead to a name for something or a jargon term but saying "that looks like a barbers pole" is not a new term originating from a barbers pole but simply a reference to barbers poles. If you terribly wish you could add a Visual Similarity alternate use and group all of these under that but that's an awfully trivial waste of space. Quixoticcool (talk) 22:29, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- We can regroup per your suggestion. It is not a trivial waste of space. WP:Paper For those who are interested it could be useful. I'll look at this tomorrow when I'm fresh. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 03:16, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- Reorganized a bit based on this idea also trimmed some truly irrelevant content from subsections. I still feel that the vast size of the alternate use section directly detracts from the quality and usability of the article and that most of it's entries should instead simply exist on the pages of their own subject with at most a link to this page. WP:WINAD may apply. Quixoticcool (talk) 18:36, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
