edit- Spelling
At one point someone changed this to American spelling. It seems more apropriate to keep it in British spelling, since the subject was born and raised in Britain.70.75.9.197 (talk) 19:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure why the following text is here70.75.9.197 (talk) 19:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Baron Bliss, according to the 1871 Census was born in Middlesex, he was the son of Henry Aldridge, he in turn was the nephew of Edward Bliss who built a large part of Hampstead, but was born in Duddington near Brentwood in Essex in a non conformist family, he is recorded as having an adult baptism in Southwark at the age of 42 he and his brother lived in the Bermondsey area in East lane and were cornfactors during the time of the Napolionic wars they seem to have made their wealth from this venture and became property developers.
Edward moved to Tower Hill while brother William purchased land in Barking and South Weald. Edward Bliss moved to Lakenheath and Brandon in Suffolk where he became Lord of the Manor and later High Sheriff of Suffolk he died at his london home in 1845 but was buried in the family Mausoleum in the grounds of the large estate he had there that is now called Brandon Country Park the large home he had is now a nursing home not having any children he left his vast wealth and most all of his many properties to his sisters child Henry Aldridge providing he changed his name to Bliss, some time later he was left land in Portugal the King of Portugal allowed him to continue under the name of Bliss,he then was left land by Barreto in Portugal andwhile the title Baron was not reconised in England he continued to use it until his death in 1869.
When the title was left to his son Henry Edward Earnest Victor Barreto there was one other brother and a sister all born in Middlesex Henry the oldest did have property and a wife in Marlow but after rounding up his affairs he left England for good died of the coast of Belize leaving all his wealth to that country in trust and musthave changed his name back to Bliss as history records him as Baron Bliss.
