question
editHow do you create external links on wiki? Do you just insert the "a href" html code you do for usual webpages?
- Like this: [http://www.webpage.com/ TitleofWebpage]. And by the way, the Milky Way has long been suspected to be barred. Spitzer is just the most recent confirmation. :) --Etacar11 00:26, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. Yeah, it has been suspected to be a barred spiral, but the Spitzer has pretty much just proved it. And the bar is alot longer than previously thought. :) OK, testing link here (it did ask for sources, after all)... Title.
- Your edit to the article makes it sound like yesterday astronomers thought it was a regular spiral and today they think its barred. That's all I meant. :) --Etacar11 03:10, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Just made a quick update, sounds a little more appropriate now.
Slashdot linkage
editHeads up, there is a front page link to this article on slashdot right now, so expect edit traffic and vandalism to spike. - Chairboy 16:51, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yikes, and it's such a tiny article in need of expansion! --Etacar11 16:54, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
Typos
editArn't Sm's spiral galaxies wit a bit of irregularities, not dwarfs. The classification for dwarf galaxies are with a "d" before it. So the LMC and SMC should be classified as dSBm. But isn't that funny, two barred galaxies orbiting a barred galaxy, LOL.

Generalization from a single example?
editThis sentence from the page: "Studying the core of the Milky Way, scientists found out that the Milky Way's bulge was peanut-shaped. This led to the conclusion that all barred spiral galaxies have a peanut shaped bulge." should be rewritten with more examples and a better explanation of the scientific process that was used. Otherwise, one might think that a generalization was made from ONE SINGLE EXAMPLE. Hugo Dufort 04:45, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Bulge
editI'm just curious but would a centralized black hole or object with a high mass account for the bulge, since it seems like stars around a central black hole orbit in that sort of fashion (varying directions) which would attribute to the "Bulge" Marx01 Tell me about it 00:26, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
half or two thirds?
editThe opening says approximately half of spirals are barred, whereas the first paragraph of the second section claims 2/3s. Those are significantly different values. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.170.62.95 (talk) 16:10, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
NGC 4565: barred or unbarred galaxy?
editIn this article written that NGC 4565 is a barred galaxy, but in article NGC 4565 - it is an unbarred galaxy. Where properly? Andrew M. Vachin (talk) 09:34, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- NED says it's unbarred [1] and the reference given in Barred spiral galaxy#The bulges describes the evidence for a bar as inconclusive. So in the absence of further data, we should take it as unbarred. Modest Genius talk 00:49, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Corrupted First Paragraph
editThe first paragraph on the page is full of false information about "African American galaxies" and other racial statements. This either needs to be fixed or removed as people will find it offensive.98.233.139.69 (talk) 00:18, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

our view of the galaxy nnd surrounding is from an iside view as a fish might look at the stream it lives in, how could is guess the size of an ocean or sea beonds its own boundrys. the universe as a whole is or will be 100,000 x the size we currantly estimate. If we are alive and all the driffent speices then the same life force that accidently smashed in to orbiting rocks with the driffent elements attached to them allso crashed in to what we know call earth. THat very life that first fourmed in to moulds and fungi and plants trees edibale fruits and nuts, with spring water feeding oxygen slowly cooked over severail billion years in to the millions of trees. plants, and of course you and me animials with a gap in intelligence, Where did the life allso go when some ploncked its self here, may be we something far bigger and greater than we can even manage to dream off. prehaps maths can explain a few missing ingreadents. prehapes we are born over and over again from humble plants to various animials until we reach human status, prehaps we live many lives each time learning a drifent lesson, prehapes our sole travels throught time and space taking on an deriffent speices, but some where anolng the histrocial journy we sliped up and were told to start again, we are the weak link in the overall pklan we seem to spend to much time ,trying to defend our sence of selth worth,as if there is nothing moore only the people close to us and no more shall i love you, what about me ,me. we live 80 or so human lives were purging our selfs with me, my self, missing the point every atom is connected to another atom so everything is never ever truly seperated, there is no me, there only us and we. Goodness createst Goodness and like for like badness only attracted badness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.73.132.204 (talk) 19:53, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Andromeda (M31)
editAccording to the M31 page, Andromeda is also a barred spiral galaxy. Any idea why it's not on the list? 172.56.81.22 (talk) 18:39, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
