Terminology

Barren vegetation as a term to describe "an area of land where plant growth may be sparse, stunted, and/or contain limited biodiversity" looks somewhat confusing.

Especially as dictionary definitions give "barren": A tract of unproductive land. Often used in plural (here) or "barren land": Those ecosystems in which less than one third of the area has vegetation or other cover. In general, Barren Land has thin soil, sand, or rocks. Barren lands include deserts, dry salt flats, beaches, sand dunes, exposed rock, strip mines, quaries, and gravel pits. (here, Sustainable Development Indicators).

So, should it be "Barrens describe an area of land where..." or "Barren land describes and area of land where..."? .Toon (talk) 18:08, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
