In order to try to make the article more accurate, I changed the "established" fields in the infobox. I have a bad feeling about it being a mistake. Us441(talk)(contribs) 00:51, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I love this article. Just fix a few references like 121 (retrieval date missing) and I would be very, very happy with this article. I'll let Us441 review it. TeacherA (talk) 00:19, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Checking against GA criteria

edit
GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose):   b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
thousands of acres of land around the city were purchased by the phosphate industry and Bartow would become the hub of the largest phosphate industry in the United States. Could do without the repetition of "phosphate industry", consider rephrasing.   Not done
''Regardless, the climate pattern prevalent throughout central Florida is evident in Bartow: Rephrase - regardless of what?
All of Bartow's local representation in the state and federal legislatures are members of the Republican Party. "representation" is a singular word, "are" is a verb form pertaining to plural nouns.  Not done
    On the 2000 Census "On"?
Although separation concerns over matters of church and state deter the city from directly involved in its operation, the service center has been renting a building from the city for $1 per year since 1966. Missing verb in "deter the city from directly involved in its operation"  Not done
Bartow has an unusually large number of government jobs. 2unusually" is a weasel word here unless attributed to someone.  Not done
The largest employer in the phosphate industry is Mosaic which employees over 3,000 people in the area.[ Did you mean "employs"?  Not done
There are also a couple of Muslim mosques "a couple of" is sloppy, do you mean "two"?  Not done
I made a number of minor copy-edits but I think you need to go through the article line by line, reading it out aloud to improve the narrative flow and style.
The lead could do with slight expansion to include culture, recreation and religion. Please see WP:LEAD.  Not done
Fixed prose issues above... will address WP:LEAD issue shortly. VictorianMutant(Talk) 20:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
Polk County is part of the Bone Valley which is the richest source of phosphate rock in the world; needs a citation for this claim.
    citation added.VictorianMutant(Talk) 20:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
What makes indo.com a reliable source for distances? used at least six times.
I originally used google, but there was a discussion on the peer review about using distances obtained from goggle (and other map sites). Indo.com obtains its distances using information obtained by the USGS (see here ) and includes the source code used in obtaining that distance. VictorianMutant(Talk) 20:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
    OK, I'll buy that. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:57, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Four dead link remain, ref #1[1], ref #2[2], ref #34[3], ref #132[4]
Other live online sources appear reliable and support the stated facts.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
Although there is mention of sports playing fields in the parks section there is no coverage of sports (apart from a passing mention of the Tour or Tow) which should be there according to WP:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. Notable people and sister cities are also suggested.  Not done
The Old Polk County Courthouse, Bartow's most recognizable symbol seen on its city seal, was built in 1909 in a neoclassical style Mention of its modern use as a museum should be made, with a brief summary of what type of museum.  Not done
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
    Fine
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
    OK
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    All check out.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
On hold for seven days for above issues to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 17:13, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I gave a one week extension, but there are still outstanding issues so i shall not be listing this artcile at this time. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:57, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have had some health issues which have kept me from being active here, so I am requesting another week to fix the issues(with the article not me). Just realized someone was reviewing this today and my internet access is spotty right now. Thanks VictorianMutant(Talk) 20:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
