Deletions

edit

This is just to talk about a few referenced editions that were deleted from this article. I thought it would be appropriate to discuss with username Sherurcij about them. Let me know the reason why you deleted the sourced statements in this talk page. Also please leave a comment here if you plan to delete further editions. thanks Jack248 13:43, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was waiting yesterday to discuss about the above issue of deleting sourced editions. Especially, the introduction statement about Bashir's membership inside ONLF (which is supported by four cited Somali references) and the section about Ethiopia claims of "double standards" (which is supported by two Ethiopian sources, one with reference to ONLF and the second with reference to Bashir. ) It is important that you discuss your reason for deleting the sections before you delete them. thank you-- Jack248 14:44, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, with the slew of bot edits yesterday (I have 3000 watched pages), I missed this talk page - sorry. I agree that your addition are Neutral, and belong on Wikipedia. They're sourced and informational. However, they belong on the main ONLF article, not on Bashir's personal article - just like we don't discuss the actions and international opinions of Egyptian Islamic Jihad or Tamil Tigers on each individual member's article. If we can move them to the main ONLF article, I will help ensure that they are notremoved and remain in place. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 20:13, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

explanation

edit

Another contributor applied a no-doubt well-meaning, but inappropriate {{prod}} to Bashir Ahmed Maktal. Since it cited different references than those used in this article the appropriate action was merge, not delete. Geo Swan (talk) 05:16, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The {prod} tag was absolute appropriate as i did not see content that would be worth to merge after carefully checking. I had the courtesy to inform you about it as you are the creator of the article to do further checking. (I wonder you did not notice yourself as you did edits to both articles.) The content fork has been fixed now. Inappropriate is just your discourteous message here. IQinn (talk) 05:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

trimmed bare references that went 404

edit

Four bare references were used to substantiate that his own community suspected Makhtal of being a member of a terrorist group -- ONLF. Those reference are all 404. After searching for the titles, and not finding anything, I trimmed the references, and placed a {{who}} template next to the claims. If no WP:RS are added to substantiate the claim, within a reasonable period of time, I think they should be removed. The dead references follow:

http://abaaqaroow.com/index.php?id=4233 Makhtal an "active member of ONLF" and ONLF chairman, admiral
http://www.geeskaafrika.com/ethiopia_06apr09.htm "member of ONLF central committee"
http://eegga.com/?q=node/39 Makhtal involved in financial and recruitment activities for ONLF
http://eegga.com/?q=node/38 Makhtal involved in financial and recruitment activities for ONLF

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 22:44, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please don't use bare references

edit

Please don't use bare references. Please supply more than the URL and the title. Please supply the name of the publication, the date of publication, the author, and since many of these bare references have gone 404 please use a service that will supply a reliable mirror. The {{cite}} templates are helpful in constructing good references. Geo Swan (talk) 15:07, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ogaden National Liberation Front...

edit

A lot of the references in this article, and a lot of the material, really has to do with the Ogaden National Liberation Front -- the ONLF -- and isn't really relevant to Bashir Makhtal, at all. I think paragraphs that deal solely with the ONLF should be replaced with a {{See also|Ogaden National Liberation Front}}.

IMO, references that explicitly claim Bashir Makhtal was associated with the ONLF, or which dispute such claims, belong in this article. IMO, references that merely describe the ONLF, or which describe claims other members of the diaspora were associated with the ONLF, belong in the ONLF article, or in articles about those individuals.
