Seriously
editIs the website seriously his website? I mean, really it just doesnt compute for me... can we get some confirmation/other sources? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.17.10.236 (talk) 20:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it is his. He gave the address in his introduction on television. It redirects to the freesite url. Mumberthrax (talk) 20:38, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Please note that this odd man was taken seriously by the voters, he appeared on Glen Beck and other national shows. This article should not be deleted because as odd as this man is, he is now a national folk character. hundreds of thousands of utube hits. He did garner 1% of the total votes in the August 5, 2010 primary. p37307 (talk) 02:56:38, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. He's been covered extensively by The Colbert Report. Granted, Colbert is mocking him, but that doesn't make him any less "notable" under Wiki guidelines.JoelWhy (talk) 13:30, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
This page should not be deleted. It is not necessary to be a successful politician to be here. He is one of the national folk, has his view points, and is certainly widely viewed and followed, therby noticible. If Sarah Palin's page is retained, for the same reasons, Marceux;s page deserves a stay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.65.89.123 (talk) 03:49, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I doubt that Basil Marceaux achieved sufficiently wide notability which would merit an article. He seems to be the French who wanted to attract the attention of American people. The Colbert Report is a satirical news parody joking insincerely. Pefp (talk) 05:12, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
I think that Basil Marceaux should definitely be kept. He is definitely notable, as evidenced by his appearances: 1. On the Colbert Report 2. On Jimmy Kimmel Live 3. On Glenn Beck's radio show. 4. On red state update. There are also numerous articles about him if you google him. For instance: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/40722.html I also don't think he's going away. His recent popularity should make him much more notable by the time he runs for another office, which he has promised to do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AndrewGroff (talk • contribs) 02:38, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Agree. I'm watching Stephen Colbert talk about him right now. --98.164.107.104 (talk) 03:34, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Keep. Thinking he doesn't deserve sufficient notoriety (or not wanting it to be so) is different from his having the notoriety. Li3crmp (talk) 11:25, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I would say keep because of the extensive national coverage he has received, especially from Stephen Colbert and Glenn Beck. Dr.orfannkyl (talk) 04:31, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
If you think that the article should be preserved or deleted, then the place to argue this is not here but instead at this "AfD". -- Hoary (talk) 14:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
I just wanted to laud the writing of this article for the objectiveness and encyclopedic quality. This is a topic that only exists because people are making fun of this guy - and for good reason really. I suppose true stories are much more funny than made up jokes. But this article contains none of that, this article states the facts about this political candidate and internet sensation, and cites plenty of verifiable sources for these facts. No hearsay, no opinion. Very good writing here. 12.46.236.142 (talk) 16:40, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Insane
editSo if he's gotten off voilations because he's insane, can't we just go out and claim he is insane? I think it counts as a credible source. 72.199.100.223 (talk) 07:27, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- No. Past insanity (even if this claim were satisfactorily sourced) would not entail present-day insanity. -- Hoary (talk) 07:13, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Rename
editThis page should be renamed "Basil Marceaux.com". He has addressed himself as such many times, so we must take it as his formal name. --71.210.197.171 (talk) 00:42, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
